I realized that Asian philosophy had the power to change people’s lives, and yet somehow I had failed to teach it that way. This is one paragraph of a heartfelt and very personal letter that a student wrote to me 15 years ago. I realized I was a prisoner of my own mind, and decided to set myself free.” I was thinking about ending my life, but something Confucius said, about “rectification of the mind” spoke directly to me. It tells the story of a child named Gerald McGrew who, when visiting a zoo, finds that the exotic animals are "not good enough".
